I am disappointed to have to write and update everyone on our current situation.
It is with deep sadness and regret that Alphington Football Club have yesterday taken the decision to withdraw our 1st Team from the Devon Football League (step 7).
We have found it incredibly difficult in pre season to sign the number of players required to run a 1st team squad. This is for many reasons, with players wanting to play a league up, other players leaving for just a small amount of money being paid.
Alphington Football Club have a long and rich tradition of having 3 adult teams playing football in the Devon leagues at all levels and it was a tough decision to make, but one we felt we had to take. We are not immune to the challenges of football at the moment and there have been many good clubs that this year have had to fold their teams
However, I also see this as a massive opportunity to build again from the bottom up. We have an impressive Youth system and we now have the unique opportunity to be able to give those great young players a route into men's football, with the right culture, philosophy and structure we will absolutely come back stronger.
This means in the 22/23 season our 1st Team will be playing in the Devon and Exeter Premier League led by Jamie Potter and our 2nd Team will be playing in Division 4 of the Devon and Exeter League and led by Justin Densham.
Good luck to all our adult and youth teams this season.
Up the Alphas ?
